Logistics play a key role in executing an organisation's business strategy and driving system-level change in the face of significant global issues, such as climate change. This module delves into sustainable business logistics practices by emphasising the integration of environmental and social considerations into business decision-making processes. Using both qualitative and quantitative approaches, students will explore key concepts, strategies, and best practices aimed at minimising the environmental impact of logistics. Throughout the module, students will engage in case studies, discussions, and practical exercises to reinforce their understanding and apply sustainable practices to real-world logistics scenarios. At the end of the module, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to champion sustainability in logistics, thereby contributing to a more resilient and environmentally conscious global business environment.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completing this module, a student is expected to:
1. Demonstrate an appreciation for the role and importance of logistics in driving sustainable system-level change, both as part of an individual firm and the larger supply chain.
2. Understand advanced logistics concepts, terminology, and techniques.
3. Explore strategies for integrating sustainability into logistics practices, considering social, environmental, and economic factors.
4. Demonstrate the skills to identify, assess, and mitigate environmental impacts of logistics practices.
5. Formulate strategies for promoting sustainable transportation choices and reducing the environmental footprint of logistics.
6. Display both oral and written communication skills through class discussions and assignments.
