On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. understand the basic principles behind key areas of biology including evolution, the core theme of all the biological sciences;
2. demonstrate an understanding of how modern research in the life sciences addresses these areas;
3. use self-directed learning to enhance their understanding of the topic;
4. conduct an experiment to test a biological question of their choice;
5. work collaboratively in a small group environment;
6. work safely in a biological laboratory;
7. record observations, collate and analyse biological data and produce a written report.
