The module seeks to give students the ability to apply knowledge, understanding and skills, performing to the standards required in employment. It also seeks to teach students a robust technique for dealing with case study style professional exams as used in both the FAE for Chartered Accountants Ireland and the Professional Exams for ACCA.
It is taught predominantly through case studies. It teaches students to take an integrated and multi disciplinary approach to problem solving and decision making looking at all relevant issues.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the module, participants should be able to:

• competently handle an integrated case study and prepare a coherent written response addressing the key issues in the case study scenario using a standardised approach

• Understand and apply appropriate decision making techniques and tools to facilitate short term and long term business decision making

• deal with ambiguity and demonstrate judgement in tackling business issues relevant to a professional accountant

• effectively communicate the results of their analysis verbally and in writing in order to support decision-making needs of senior executives and professional accountants

• governance, risk management, professional ethics and sustainability
• data analytics, artificial intelligence & emerging technologies
In addition to working through case studies (which are completed in groups and on an individual basis) the module also covers areas not explicitly covered in other modules such as business leadership; decision making techniques and frameworks; divisional performance analysis; CSR; ethics; emerging technologies. This course teaches students to apply their technical knowledge in an integrated manner using business simulations. It also aims to teach students to apply a strategic approach to business problems.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The module is designed on the assumption that students will attend all the sessions. Sessions will provide a focal point for discussing and navigating the module’s material and achieving the learning outcomes in full. The module will involve (a) extensive class discussion and (b) application of knowledge by attempting case study scenarios in class on both a Group and individual basis.
