The MLitt degree is a two year research degree (four years part-time) which combines some taught skills elements alongside a major research thesis of 40,000-50,000 words.

Research Master’s students may apply to transfer to a PhD programme.
Master’s level research aims to develop in the student the skills and competencies required to conduct research.
Schools will assign a principal supervisor to each Research Master’s student, who has primary responsibility for your academic supervision.

It appeals to those who wish to gain the necessary scholarly skills in the field while still having flexibility in subject matter. This course is also suitable for those who are thinking about doing a PhD in the future, but are unsure if they would like to commit to such an extensive project at first.
