- Apply the use of accurate spoken and written Irish in both academic and professional contexts, e.g. write analytical essays, give interviews in broadcast and print media; debate and analyse current affairs and academic topics; be proficient in the use of on-line and traditional resources.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of dialectal and standard Irish (An Caighdeán Oifigiúil) from the beginning of the Modern Irish period to the present day, attaining a C1 level or higher on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or its equivalent.
- Students should be able to construct coherent and research-focused argument in Modern Irish in the areas of linguistic and grammatical study, literature and cultural studies.

The Graduate Diploma sa Nua-Ghaeilge is for graduates of Modern Irish and graduates of cognate disciplines. It aims to promote and preserve the Irish language, literature and culture, and emphasise their importance for Irish society and European identity. It prepares students for a broad range of career paths, including education in Ireland and abroad, public service, editing and publishing, and further academic research. Students develop communicative, analytical and research skills throughout the programme. They will develop advanced linguistic skills in Irish and deepen their knowledge of Irish-language literature, culture and history.
