MSc Critical Care Nursing

This programme is designed for UCD Graduate diploma holders in the following specialities: Critical Care–Intensive Care, Critical Care Cardiovascular, Heart Failure Nursing, Paediatric Critical Care, Peri-Operative Nursing and Emergency Nursing.

This programme not only allows you to delve into and address research questions that arise in your clinical practice but also equips you with the skills in research synthesis to tackle these questions. Moreover, it guides you through the process of implementation science, enabling you to effectively apply research findings to your practice.

This programme is designed for holders of UCD Graduate Diplomas in the following specialities: Critical Care–Intensive Care, Critical Care- Cardiovascular, Heart Failure Nursing, Paediatric Critical Care, Peri-Operative Nursing and Emergency Nursing.

Holders of Level 8 Higher Diplomas should contact the school to discuss their options.

Entry Requirements

  • All applicants must be listed on the Register of Nurses and Midwives, which is maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Applicants must be employed in clinical practice in Ireland while undertaking the programme
  • Applicants must have completed a Graduate Diploma in one of the following specialities: Critical Care–Intensive Care, Critical Care- Cardiovascular, Heart Failure Nursing, Paediatric Critical Care, Peri-Operative Nursingand Emergency Nursing.

Documents Required

  • Nurse applicants must provide a copy of their current registration and PIN with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Professional Reference Form

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL may be granted in respect of individual modules if applicants can demonstrate that the modules' learning outcomes have been achieved through prior credentialled or experiential learning. In some cases, where an applicant does not meet the prerequisites for entry to a programme, an RPL application may be considered. Further information can be found in respect of this here.
