Students enrolled on the programme complete a 30 ETS module, NMHS 44020 Evidence Synthesis and Translation, over two Trimesters (September to May). Students work under the guidance of an allocated supervisor to write a thesis on a topic of their interest. The thesis will present a synthesis of existing evidence or an initiative to translate evidence into practice.

This programme is for applicants who hold a Graduate Diploma Nursing (Public Health Nursing) Level 9. Applicants must be employed as Public Health Nurses at time of application and for the duration of the programme.
You will sharpen your analytical and critical thinking and develop knowledge and skills that will help you assume a leadership role in clinical care. Healthcare professionals require knowledge and skill in evidence synthesis and translating evidence into practice. This programme aims to support students to develop these competencies leading to enhanced EBP in their professional practice, leading to better quality, safe and individualised patient care.

Incoming Stage 1 undergraduates can usually select an Elective in the Spring Trimester. Most continuing undergraduate students can select up to two Elective modules (10 Credits) per stage. There is also the possibility to take up to 10 extra Elective credits.

"I decided to complete the MSc Nursing (Public Health) at UCD. UCD has a reputation as an academic stronghold. Personally, this was a drawing factor for me. With regard to the course structure the lectures were one evening a week. Each one acted as a stepping stone to guide you towards your end goal of completing your dissertation. The course co-ordinators provided structured targets with achievable time frames that allowed you to complete the work and gain momentum. All students also had the support of a link lecturer and a supervisor who advised on the dissertation itself.
