"The aim of this module is to examine why and how Finance professionals, in corporate settings, use data and quantitative methods. A comprehensive range of quantitative techniques are reviewed, however the principal focus is on applications in Finance. The basic techniques of data analysis used by Finance professionals will be introduced. This will include a discussion of the main databases, a review of the key features of market and corporate data, as well as the techniques available for analysing this data. The module includes an introduction to empirical relationships in Finance using econometric analysis. Key applications will be examined including discounting cash flows, the time value of money and predictions of key business metrics. A particular focus will be on the evaluation of the performance of the techniques deployed in real world data.

Learning Objectives
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key elements of financial analytics.
2. Apply quantitative techniques to practical real-world problems in finance and business, including problems requiring prediction.
3. Implement a range of analytical metrics in an efficient manner using spreadsheets and statistical software.
4. Evaluate from a management perspective the performance of analytics.
