This Professional Certificate has been designed to allow individuals the flexibility to study single legal modules from a wide range of subjects on offer in UCD Sutherland School of Law. This 10 credit programme is ideal for professionals with either a legal qualification or a qualification or experience in an area of relevance to the subjects they wish to study. It involves completing a single law module available in the Masters' programmes offered by the School.
You will study alongside Masters (LLM) Students and on completion, you may consider continuing to study the LLM (subject to meeting entry requirements). This is a flexible opportunity to study LLM modules one at a time (as part of our Professional certificate or Professional Diploma in the case of more than one module). You will be studying individual graduate-level modules to accumulate credits over a prolonged period of time leading to a certificate, diploma or master’s degree.
Students who undertake this programme are challenged to think more critically about the social, cultural and political dimensions of the law, as well as the technical aspects of its application.

Incoming Stage 1 undergraduates can usually select an Elective in the Spring Trimester. Most continuing undergraduate students can select up to two Elective modules (10 Credits) per stage. There is also the possibility to take up to 10 extra Elective credits.

Applications for admission to the Programme are invited from practising barristers or solicitors, graduates holding an approved university law degree or law-based inter disciplinary university degree or equivalent.
Applications will also be considered from the holders of academic and/or professional qualifications and/or proof of such experience as satisfy the School of Law that they are able to participate fully in the course and will be required to study the Introduction to Law module in advance of being admitted to the course.
